My family and I decided to settle in Texas. Although the blog is not quite up to date, you can see what fun we are having. A more recent development is that I have been employed back in Africa Kenya on a contract basis of 3 months on and 1 month home in Texas.
Anyway for those who are interested copy this into your browser.

Hi Stu

Do you need to make any arrangements with immigration for contract work? I'm considering going back to contract flying for financial reasons, while my wife stays in the US. I'm worried though that immigration will not like me leaving and returning to the US so often.

No, you don't need to make arrangements - unless you are going to be out of the USA for more than 1 year at a time. In that case, BEFORE you leave you will need to apply for a re-entry permit. This doesn't sound like it will be the case with you.

What you WILL need to do, is keep an accurate record of each and every date you arrived in the USA, or left the USA, no matter how frequently or for how long (even 1 day) or for what reason. You will need this info if you intend to naturalize.

If you intend to naturalize, there may be implications, depending on how much time you spend out of the USA. In addition to the 5 years residency, you also need 30 month of physical prescence in the USA in the 5 year period before you apply. Each day, week, month etc outside of the USA is therefore important, and too much time outside of the USA may mean you don't qualify to naturalize until much later.

Hi Moobear,
I sent out about 150 CV's for flying positions here, I got no response except from a company who contract for asian companies and 1 from an African based company. Interesting since when I came here I thought that there would still be loads of flying positions.
I have taken the job in Africa because at the end of the day we have to support our families. I will be taking Malamutes advice and keep records of every movement in and out of the USA. My family will have to stay here though as it is contract work.
All the best
Stu
