I am currently 5 months pregnant and will be going for the green card interview in August.

Has anybody gone through the process being pregnant?
What will happen with the medical exams and if I get the visa will I be able to give birth in the USA? I know I can fly up to 35 weeks and my husband does have international medical insurance.

Do I have to let the Kentucky office know or just the Dr?

If I can't give birth there it takes up to 4 months dry.gif to get a SA passport for the baby.

Any info please!!

So you have or have not done the medical examinsations yet? or is all that behind you? At what part of the interview process are you at at the moment.

Chances are, if you are already 5 months pregnant and depending on your current status concerning your interview process you will probably give birth in SA.

I would, for obvious purposes, let all parties know.

Dee

No I am currently living in the UK and have not been for the medical exams. We will be going for the interview and med in Aug with the interview (in London), so there will be time to fly over after if we get the green card.

Also my husband is the main applicant.

I will only be giving birth in October.

Great news!! I just found this info on the http://travel.state....#_What_if_the_1 website.

If the applicant is pregnant must she have a chest x-ray?

United States Public Health Service regulations allow for an exemption of the chest x-ray requirement for pregnant women. If the applicant is pregnant and does not wish to have the X-ray, a temporary exemption will be granted. To be granted the exemption, the applicant must bring to the examination written certification of her pregnancy signed by her personal physician or obstetrician.

What if there is a medical reason for the applicant to not receive a listed vaccination?

Only a physician can determine which of the listed vaccinations are medically appropriate for the applicant, given the applicant’s age, medical history, and current medical condition. Certain waivers of the vaccination requirement are available upon the recommendation of the panel physician.

Just a BIG caution to check the medical insurance. What type of insurance is it? Is it a travel policy for annual cover or similar? Such policies pretty normally EXCLUDE any pre-existing conditions - e.g. pregnancy, which means you will have no cover for pregnancy and/or birth in the USA. They also almost ALWAYS exclude emigration - i.e. intention to permanently relocate - regardless of buying return tickets etc. Check the policy very, very carefully. You would need to be covered, naturally, as you state that your husband has international medical insurance, does not mean that you have too?

I'm in the UK too, and will be moving over on my Green Card in 2 months. I have looked at a number of the UK international medical insurance policies - such as annual travel policies etc, and they EXCLUDE any cover if you are leaving the UK to relocate. I found one the other day that DOES include the cover, but only for the first 17 days etc. PM me if you need details.

Best of luck, and enjoy the whole thing - having the baby, relocating to the USA!

Thanks Malamute

Yes we both have international cover and I already asked them about giving birth in the USA and it will be fine. With the cover we get from them I can give birth anywhere in the world.
My husband works for an international company that transferred us out of the USA in '07 and they will be willing to transfer us back again if we get the green card smile.gif

I lived in the US for 2 years and my husband was there for 6 years and we loved it!!

Got the green cards!!! YEH

Just an update for anybody going through this process pregnant.

One of the first things they asked me is if I was planning to have my baby in the USA. I said yes and they had no problem with that.

WOW!!!!! It all feels unreal. I think it will truly set in as soon as I see the visa in my passport

Congratulations Sonbossie!

I know why they call it a green card - those of us who don't have it yet, are all green with envy! May your stay in the US be a pleasant one.

Dolphie, good luck with your interview. I'm sure it will be a mere formality.
