Hi!

Thanks again to this forum for the good and helpful advice. My wife and I have now received our DV2010 visa from the US Embassy in London! Now for the next step...

I have done some reading on the forum around visa activation before posting but wanted to make sure I have understood correctly. Dont want to have come this far now to breach the conditions of the permanent resisdence.

So my wife and I will not be able to move to the US within the 6 months visa expiry window as we are not finished renovating our house. The plan is the complete the renovations and then move over in February 2011 (Our visa expires December 12th 2010).

So my understanding is:

- We can go on a holiday/LSD trip before December expiry date, enter the US, get our visa endorsed at the POE and at that point technically become US permanent residents.

- We can then complete our 2 week LSD trip and head home to the UK. We will supply a US temp address at POE and hopefully get SS cards and Green card arriving in the mail while we are back in the UK..

- We can then freely re-enter in Feb 2011 and not require a re-entry visa as long as we are not away for more that 6 months or 1 year (not sure which). Therefore simply enter US Immigration with newly endorsed US Permanent Res visa

- The moment we activate our visa we become US permanent residents by law and we have to fill out a tax return possibly for 2010 year.

Sound OK? :-)

Thanks

You’ve got it perfect.
Are you getting someone to courier your green cards to you ? its not necessary at all though. The red stamp in your passport is valid.
Don't forget to submit your zero tax returns for 2010.

Thanks! :)

We have subscribed to a US Physical address forwarding service that we will have them sent to.
