oscar 104 Report post Posted July 16, 2020 You live in a very blue state, so your vote wont make a difference. If you don't like the change you can always consider moving back to Orania

I know that this isn't a political forum, but that's a really obtuse thing to say. Partisan opinions aside, but the current US president is nothing short of Jacob Zuma. They're both accidents that should have never happened.

Delo 16 Report post Posted August 19, 2020 For what it’s worth, the visa bulletin is out. The number of entries is much lower (probably the passport requirement). Of the 132,404 selectees 510 are South African.

Yeah, the passport requirement certainly does seem to have affected the number of entries. I think a very large part of it has to do with the fact that all of those ‘third party services’ people use wouldn’t have been able to automatically reenter the hundreds of thousands of people on their books who had previously enrolled with them before the passport requirement came into effect. Which is a good thing as far as I am concerned. As for the 510 South African selectees, it seems to track with figures as far back as 2016, when for some reason the number of SA selectees dropped from a previous average of 1,000 to half that number. Which is kinda sad, because that effectively doubled the odds for South African entrants from roughly a 1 in 25 chance of success to a 1 in 55 chance of success 😞
SJ272 146 Report post Posted August 27, 2020 Ah, excellent point about the third party services. Yes, that’s probably a big part of it.
Delo 16 Report post Posted September 5, 2020 Excellent point indeed. On that assumption, then we might see a slight increase for DV22. From what I’ve heard, it’s still planned (one such embassy has even given dates. But I’d consider that tentatively). Also, some partial good news for some DV20 selectees (who are outside the US). Judge Mehta issued an order that DV20 visa issuance should continue. This, however only seems to favour the listed plaintiffs and possibly the people who had already interviewed/have expired visas. The argument is that DV20 should have been considered “mission critical” given the time constraints. We’ll know more about the possible extension for DV20 on 25 September. But I wouldn’t hold my breath because it’s clearly addressed in the INA.
