oscar 104 Report post Posted October 15, 2020 I sent the IRS a check for some taxes due. The check was dated September 1, 2020 . I received a letter from the IRS charging me interest on the original amount. My original check payment was never cashed. So I asked them if I should stop payment and send them a new check? The lady said ",no don't do that" otherwise there would be a penalty. She advised that they have over Five Million unopened letters of correspondence/ checks and they will eventually get to it. I filed as usual in April and I think I got my refund in July or August, it was really slow this year.
